Fire Sprinkler Design in Ontario

Sprinkler layouts and hydraulic calculations developed around the building arrangement and available water supply.

JSR Engineering provides fire sprinkler design for building projects across Ontario. The design considers the proposed use and layout of the building, system routing and water supply information as part of a coordinated fire protection package.

Sprinkler layouts for buildings & renovations

New partitions, room uses and ceiling arrangements can affect sprinkler coverage and routing. We prepare layouts that respond to the proposed architectural plans and coordinate sprinkler locations with the building arrangement. Renovation work also needs to account for the relationship between new work and the existing system.

Hydraulic calculations & water supply

Hydraulic calculations assess the demands of the proposed sprinkler arrangement against the available water supply information. Pipe sizes, elevation changes and relevant system losses contribute to the calculation. Water supply constraints are identified through the design process rather than assumed from a layout alone.

Coordination with structure & building systems

Sprinkler piping must fit within the planned walls, ceiling zones and service routes. We coordinate design information with architectural plans and available structural backgrounds. Structural openings, supports and other discipline responsibilities remain part of the overall project coordination.

Fire protection design for changing building layouts

Sprinkler design is closely connected to the use of a space and the geometry of the building. New partitions, ceiling changes and altered room arrangements can change the coverage required within a renovation. The proposed piping also needs a workable route through the available building spaces. JSR Engineering develops fire sprinkler layouts and hydraulic calculations as part of the agreed fire protection assignment, with design information coordinated with the other building disciplines.

Frequently asked questions

Why are water supply details important for sprinkler design?

A layout shows where sprinklers and pipes are proposed. Water supply information and hydraulic calculations are needed to assess whether the system can achieve its design demand.

Does an existing sprinkler system need review during a renovation?

An existing system should not be assumed suitable for every new layout. A renovation may change sprinkler locations, coverage or the relationship between new piping and the existing system. The extent of review and modification depends on the proposed work and available system information.
